The Interstate Fisheries Management Program (ISFMP) serves as the core of decision-making, where species management boards establish regulations to conserve fishery resources, supported by an active participation framework. The ISFMP Policy Board oversees this, monitoring stock performance and policy implementation with representation from all member states and several federal agencies.

The Advisory Panel commented that the goal should be specific to females (spawning stock biomass). It would be helpful to people if we simply said that we are focusing on spawning stock biomass for rebuilding.

The Advisory Panel of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) Menhaden Management Board met in Baltimore, Maryland on Wednesday, October 29th to discuss the: Commercial Landings Data for 2002 and 2003 to date, The 2003 Stock Assessment, and the SEDAR Peer Review of the 2003 Stock Assessment.

The Technical Committee met during TC meeting week in Providence, RI, on October 24, 2003.

The Spiny Dogfish Technical Committee met with the Mid-Atlantic and New England Fishery Management Council’s Spiny Dogfish Monitoring Committee on September 10, 2003 in Baltimore, Maryland to set the specifications for the 2004-2005 fishing year. The Monitoring and Technical Committees reviewed the results from the 37th Stock Assessment Workshop and evaluated the status of the stock prior to recommending the annual quota and possession limits for the 2004-2005 fishing year.
