The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission’s Northern Shrimp Section (Section) has extended the moratorium on commercial and recreational fishing for northern shrimp through 2024. This action responds to the results of the 2021 Stock Assessment Update, which indicates the Gulf of Maine northern shrimp population remains depleted.

The PDT has developed draft management options to be considered for public comment, which include options that would modify the minimum and maximum gauge sizes of Lobster Conservation and Management Areas (LCMAs) within the stock.

The American Lobster Management Board met to consider Draft Addendum XXIX to the American Lobster FMP and Draft Addendum IV to the Jonah crab FMP on electronic tracking requirements in the federal American lobster and Jonah crab fisheries for public comment. With full support across the states, the Board approved the Draft Addendum for public comment and expects to hold public hearings in early 2022.
