In August 2020, the Board initiated development of Amendment 7 to the FMP to update the management program to better align with current fishery needs and priorities, and build upon the action of Addendum VI to Amendment 6 to address overfishing and initiate rebuilding. Amendment 7 addresses management triggers, recreational release mortality, stock rebuilding plan, and conservation equivalency (CE).
Fisheries Management
The Interstate Fisheries Management Program (ISFMP) serves as the core of decision-making, where species management boards establish regulations to conserve fishery resources, supported by an active participation framework. The ISFMP Policy Board oversees this, monitoring stock performance and policy implementation with representation from all member states and several federal agencies.
