The Shad and River Herring Advisory Panel (AP) met to hear presentations on the 2007 American Shad Benchmark Stock Assessment and the Public Information Document (PID) for Amendment 2 to the Shad and River Herring Fishery Management Plan (FMP). Following the presentation of the PID, the AP developed their comments to the Board related to the PID for Amendment 2.
Fisheries Management
The Interstate Fisheries Management Program (ISFMP) serves as the core of decision-making, where species management boards establish regulations to conserve fishery resources, supported by an active participation framework. The ISFMP Policy Board oversees this, monitoring stock performance and policy implementation with representation from all member states and several federal agencies.

NOAA Fisheries Service’s Northeast Regional Office contracted the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASFMC) to host a workshop on Atlantic sturgeon research protocols in response to the results from the Atlantic sturgeon status review and potential listing of the species.

While mangers have traditionally relied on analytical methods to help them make informed choices on a singlespecies basis, few analytical tools are available to evaluate decisions at the ecosystem level. The Expanded Multispecies Virtual Population Analysis (MSVPA-X) was conceived to support to fisheries management decisions made in a multispecies context.
