Fisheries Management
The Interstate Fisheries Management Program (ISFMP) serves as the core of decision-making, where species management boards establish regulations to conserve fishery resources, supported by an active participation framework. The ISFMP Policy Board oversees this, monitoring stock performance and policy implementation with representation from all member states and several federal agencies.

The Lobster Board initiated Draft Addendum XX at the November 2012 meeting with the following motion: Move to initiate the development of an addendum that would include measures outlined in the agreement between the offshore lobster fishery and sector trawl fishermen for bottom-sharing in Closed Area 2 in order to protect large concentrations of egg-bearing females and prevent gear conflicts. Limited changes to the agreement by the industry could be made through board action. This addendum establishes a bottom-sharing in Closed Area 2.

The Atlantic Croaker Technical Committee and Spot Plan Review Team held a conference call to review the 2012 Trigger Exercise results (using data from 2011), the South Atlantic State-Federal Board’s request from the August 2012 ASMFC meeting, and a plan to carry out an up of the triggers with 2012 data.

Three members of the Winter Flounder Advisory Panel participated in a May 6, 2013 conference call to discuss winter flounder specifications for Gulf of Maine and Southern New England winter flounder. The AP members decided to submit a report with recommendations to the Winter Flounder Management Board based on the conference call discussions and additional input from AP members who were not able to make the call, via email.
