The Atlantic Striped Bass Technical Committee (TC) met on March 24, 2015. The agenda included a request from Virginia for the TC to review two proposals: 1) changes to the current Virginia striped bass tagging and monitoring program and, 2) studies to calculate calibration factors for the seine nets used by Maryland and Virginia for the striped bass juvenile abundance index in the Chesapeake Bay.
Fisheries Management
The Interstate Fisheries Management Program (ISFMP) serves as the core of decision-making, where species management boards establish regulations to conserve fishery resources, supported by an active participation framework. The ISFMP Policy Board oversees this, monitoring stock performance and policy implementation with representation from all member states and several federal agencies.

The Atlantic Striped Bass Technical Committee (TC) met on January 9, and March 24, 2015 to continue the development of fishing mortality (F) reference points for the Chesapeake Bay (CB) as well as consider potential F reference points for the other spawning stocks (Delaware Bay and Hudson River).

The Advisory Panel met via conference call on April 10, 2015 to review the results of the 2015 benchmark stock assessment and peer review as well as formulate recommendations for the fishery specifications setting process.

At its February meeting, the Atlantic Menhaden Management Board (Board) tasked the BERP WG with developing ecological reference points for Atlantic menhaden using Pikitch et al. (2012) as described in the ERP Report.

After consideration of the recommendations from the 2015 Atlantic Menhaden Benchmark Stock Assessment Peer Review Panel, the Technical Committee (TC) recommends that the biological reference points for the Atlantic menhaden population be based on MSP (maximum spawning potential).

Clarification to Selecting a Regional Stock Definition for Tautog Management

During the ASMFC Winter Meeting in February 2015, the Board tasked the Technical Committee (TC) with calculating a set of reference points for all the regional options using consistent methods. The Board tabled the decision to select a regional stock unit definition, so the TC will produce a whitepaper to revisit the regional breakdowns. The purpose of this meeting is to review the work that has been put into the whitepaper and additional data analysis (i.e. reference points and MRIP data).
