Benchmark Stock Assessment Meetings

A meeting held during the development of a specie’s Benchmark Stock Assessment. Benchmark stock assessment development includes three types of workshops and a peer review. These workshops are open to the public and are guided by defining clear goals, products, and individual responsibilities for the participants involved. Participants include state and federal biologists and stock assessment scientists that make up the Commissions’ species technical committees and stock assessment subcommittees and Commission staff

  • Arlington, VA – The second of two Horseshoe Crab Stock Assessment Workshops will be conducted July 31 – August 2, at the Commission’s office at 1050 N. Highland Street, Suite 200A-N, Arlington, Virginia. The assessment will evaluate the horseshoe crab population along the Atlantic coast and inform the management of this species. All Commission assessment workshops are open for public attendance. Time may be allotted for public comment at the Stock Assessment Subcommittee (SAS) Chair’s discretion, but may also be limited to keep the workshop on schedule.   • Arlington, VA – The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission has begun work on two Atlantic menhaden- specific benchmark assessments: a single-species benchmark assessment and an ecological-based benchmark assessment. The assessments will be used to evaluate the health of the stock and inform the management of the species in an ecological context. The assessments will be peer-reviewed at the end of 2019.
