In November 2022, the Horseshoe Crab Management Board formed a work group to review and update the best management practices (BMPs) for handling biomedical catch, which were originally developed in 2011. The work group (WG) includes technical committee and advisory panel members with expertise in horseshoe crab biology, ecology, and biomedical processing.

Addendum VIII implements the 2021 Revision to the ARM Framework and will be used to annually produce bait harvest recommendations for male and female horseshoe crabs of Delaware Bay-origin, based on the abundance of horseshoe crabs and red knots.

The Commission’s Horseshoe Crab Management Board approved harvest specifications for horseshoe crabs of Delaware Bay-origin. Taking into consideration the recommendations of the Adaptative Resource Management (ARM) Framework Revision, the Board set a harvest limit of 475,000 male horseshoe crabs and zero female Delaware Bay-origin horseshoe crabs for the 2023 season.
