Fisheries Management
The Interstate Fisheries Management Program (ISFMP) serves as the core of decision-making, where species management boards establish regulations to conserve fishery resources, supported by an active participation framework. The ISFMP Policy Board oversees this, monitoring stock performance and policy implementation with representation from all member states and several federal agencies.

The Shad and River Herring Technical Committee (TC) met via conference call to discuss the following items: 1) 2017 update of existing Shad and River Herring Sustainable Fishery Management Plans, 2) review the Nemasket River Sustainable Fishery Management Plan, and 3) provide a spring 2016 update on run counts and harvest from each state.

the Board directed the Technical Committee to investigate the impacts of a number of variables to shed light on the large differences between actual harvest and those estimated for the ocean and Bay recreational fisheries. Enclosed is the Technical Committee report evaluating the performance of Addendum IV regulatory measures in 2015.

The Atlantic Menhaden Advisory Panel (AP) met via conference call on September 30th to review a draft of the Public Information Document (PID) for Amendment 3.

During their September 27th ‐28th meeting in Gloucester, MA, the American Lobster Technical Committee (TC) discussed ways to analyze the effects of season closures and trip limits on egg production in Southern New England (SNE). This discussion was prompted by a request from the Plan Development Team (PDT), who was interested in learning more about the potential impacts of these management tools on the stock.
