Clarification to Selecting a Regional Stock Definition for Tautog Management
-
During the ASMFC Winter Meeting in February 2015, the Board tasked the Technical Committee (TC) with calculating a set of reference points for all the regional options using consistent methods. The Board tabled the decision to select a regional stock unit definition, so the TC will produce a whitepaper to revisit the regional breakdowns. The purpose of this meeting is to review the work that has been put into the whitepaper and additional data analysis (i.e. reference points and MRIP data).

Prepared for Draft Amendment 3 to the Atlantic Herring Fishery Management Plan
-
One of the options contained in the amendment is the possible opening of part or all of Closed Area II (CAII) on Georges Bank to mobile gear. This task is similar to a task in 2012, which examined a lift in the prohibition on mobile gear in Closed Area II. The TC convened a call on December 29, 2014 to discuss possible consequences to lobster of opening the closed area to mobile gear. Below is a summary of their discussions.
