Fisheries Management
The Interstate Fisheries Management Program (ISFMP) serves as the core of decision-making, where species management boards establish regulations to conserve fishery resources, supported by an active participation framework. The ISFMP Policy Board oversees this, monitoring stock performance and policy implementation with representation from all member states and several federal agencies.

The MAFMC and ASMFC Bluefish Advisory Panels (APs) met via webinar on July 31, 2023, to provide comments on bluefish recreational management measures for 2024. AP feedback at this meeting will inform the Council and Board’s August 9th bluefish specifications and recreational management measures discussions.

The Commission’s Tautog Technical Committee (TC) met via conference call on Friday, July 21st, to review the results of the NY feasibility study on alternative commercial tag types and placements.

The Weakfish Technical Committee and Stock Assessment Subcommittee met via webinar to begin planning the next assessment update for weakfish, which is scheduled to be completed in early 2025. In addition to informing the management of weakfish, the results of this update will also support the Ecological Reference Point Benchmark Assessment for Atlantic menhaden.
