The Red Drum Technical Committee last met in 2002. The main items on the agenda for this meeting were: 1) planning for the 2009 stock assessment; 2) discussion of a potential 2007 red drum summit; 3) review of South Carolina and Georgia red drum programs; and 4) discussion of the pending red drum longline survey.

The first meeting of the Coastal Sharks Technical Committee (TC) began with a presentation of the 2006 Large Coastal Shark stock assessment by Julie Neer. Of the 22 LCS species managed by NMFS, 11 are prohibited and sandbar and blacktip sharks are assessed separately leaving a total of nine species comprising the LCS assessment.

The Technical Committee (TC) met on April 19th and 20th to review recent research and monitoring and discuss the biological effects of draft Addendum IV options. Several researchers from the Virginia Tech Horseshoe Crab Research Center presented updates on their work.

The Atlantic Menhaden Technical Committee met on March 16-17, 2006 in Providence Rhode Island. This meeting was a data workshop in preparation of the 2006 stock assessment. This stock assessment is an update from the 2003 peer reviewed assessment and will not be peer reviewed. It will use similar datasets and methodology as the 2003 assessment, updating the data from 2002 through 2005.

The Stock Assessment Subcommittee (SAS) held a workshop on January 3rd, 4th, and 5th to review and discuss models used to estimate horseshoe crab population status and trends. The Technical Committee (TC) met immediately after the SAS on January 5th and 6th to discuss the results of the SAS workshop and management options for draft Addendum IV.
