The ASMFC Horseshoe Crab and USFWS Shorebird Technical Committees (TCs) met jointly on March 30th and 31st in Baltimore. The purpose of the meeting was to receive updates from the Adaptive Resource Management Work Group (AWG) and to make decisions or recommendations to guide the AWG’s work. In addition, the TCs will receive presentations from Virginia Tech regarding its work on HSCs and red knots.

The Striped Bass Technical Committee (TC) met to elect a vice chair, review work completed for a list of seven tasks from the Striped Bass Management Board, discuss recent research findings on mycobacteriosis in the Chesapeake Bay, review trends in available fishery dependent and independent data, and discuss plans for the upcoming 2009 update stock assessment.

On December 16, staff delivered a list of seven tasks from the Striped Bass Management Board (Board) to the Technical Committee (TC). The Board developed the task list following its October meeting and in anticipation of resuming discussion of an addendum to Amendment 6 at its next meeting on February 2, 2009. The list was later prioritized to address the concern that the TC may not have time to address all the tasks by the deadline.

The Spiny Dogfish Technical Committee (TC) met on October 16, 2008 to review the 2008 NEFSC spawning stock biomass (SSB) update and recommend a quota and possession limit for the 2009/2010+ fishing season(s).
