At the request of the South Atlantic State-Federal Fisheries Management Board (Management Board), the Spot Plan Review Team (PRT) reported on available fishery-independent and fishery-dependent indices of abundance from Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina in 2007 and 2008.

The Weakfish Stock Assessment Subcommittee (SAS) met to review and select final model runs for the 2009 Weakfish Stock Assessment. The Weakfish Technical Committee (TC) met to review and approve the SAS’s work. Additional analytical and writing tasks were assigned to various committee members (see last page of the attached document).

The Shad and River Herring Technical Committee met via conference call on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at 10 a.m. The purpose of the call was to give an update on Amendment 2 (River Herring) and to develop recommendations for the Shad and River Herring Plan Development Team on Amendment 3 (American Shad).

The ASMFC Horseshoe Crab and USFWS Shorebird Technical Committees (TCs) met jointly on March 30th and 31st in Baltimore. The purpose of the meeting was to receive updates from the Adaptive Resource Management Work Group (AWG) and to make decisions or recommendations to guide the AWG’s work. In addition, the TCs will receive presentations from Virginia Tech regarding its work on HSCs and red knots.

The Striped Bass Technical Committee (TC) met to elect a vice chair, review work completed for a list of seven tasks from the Striped Bass Management Board, discuss recent research findings on mycobacteriosis in the Chesapeake Bay, review trends in available fishery dependent and independent data, and discuss plans for the upcoming 2009 update stock assessment.
