In preparation for the regional assessments for Long Island Sound (LIS) and New York/ New Jersey (excluding LIS), the Tautog Technical Committee (TC) and Stock Assessment Subcommittee (SAS) held a joint webinar to review and discuss preliminary analyses for each region in advance of the report submission due in June. The TC/SAS also reviewed key dates for the 2016 stock assessment update.

The Shad and River Herring Technical Committee (TC) met via conference call to discuss the following items: 1) stock assessments for river herring and American Shad 2) River Herring.com and the website’s utility moving forward 3) receive an update on the Data Collection Standardization Workshop and Report and to 4) Elect a TC Chair and Vice Chair.

TC’s recommendation to the ASC is to maintain the current timeline for a northern shrimp benchmark assessment in 2017.

The American Lobster Plan Development Team (PDT) met via conference call on March 23, 2016 to develop potential management objectives for the Southern New England (SNE) stock, a task assigned by the Lobster Board at the February meeting.

The American Lobster Technical Committee (TC) met on March 14th to complete tasks assigned by the American Lobster Management Board (Board) in November 2015 and to address followup questions from the February 2016 Board meeting. These included impacts to the stock from gauge size changes, comparative sources of mortality, stock‐recruit relationships, the costs and benefits of standardizing regulations in Southern New England (SNE), the attainability of recalculated reference points, and the need for a new comprehensive tagging study.

The Striped Bass Technical Committee (TC) met via conference call to review submitted state metadata and discuss whether or not additional data collection is necessary in preparation for the 2018 benchmark stock assessment.
