The Commission’s Tautog Technical Committee (TC) met via conference call on Tuesday, April 7 to review a Conservation Equivalency Proposal from Rhode Island (RI) for the Party/Charter sector and discuss current timeline of the next stock assessment update. The attached is a summary of the group’s discussion.

States implementation plans and conservation equivalency (CE) proposals for Addendum VI were due November 30, 2019 for technical review. The Atlantic Striped Bass Technical Committee (TC) met December 17-18, 2019 to review technical merit of state implementation plans and CE proposals, and to ensure the accepted criteria outlined in M19-084 were followed.

The Bluefish Technical Committee (TC) met via conference call on December 16, 2019 to establish criteria for the development of conservation equivalency proposals for the coastwide 2020 bluefish recreational measures.

In the fall of 2017, the Shad and River Herring Technical Committee (TC) identified several inconsistencies between state SFMPs and the requirements of Amendments 2 and 3. The Amendments require all states and jurisdictions to submit Sustainable Fishery Management Plans (SFMPs) for all systems that remain open to river herring and shad harvest. SFMPs must quantitatively demonstrate that fisheries will not have a negative impact on the stock.
