  • Arlington, VA – New England states of Maine through Massachusetts have scheduled their hearings to gather public comment on the Public Hearing Document for Draft Amendment 3 to the Interstate Fishery Management Plan for Atlantic Herring. The dates, times, and locations of the scheduled hearings are attached. Draft Amendment 3 was initiated to propose management measures in Area 1A (inshore Gulf of Maine) which reflect changes in the stock structure, integrate recent data into management decisions, and respond to changes in the fishery.   • Arlington, VA – The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission will conduct a River Herring Data Collection Standardization Workshop on November 18‐20, 2015 in Linthicum, MD. The Workshop will bring together researchers from state and federal marine fishery agencies, Tribal Nations, and Canada Department of Fisheries and Oceans to evaluate current fishery‐independent surveys for river herring and develop recommendations to standardize survey methodologies as well as data collected by these surveys for use in future stock assessments.   • Arlington, VA – Based on the findings of the 2015 Atlantic Menhaden Benchmark Stock Assessment and Peer Review, the Commission’s Atlantic Menhaden Management Board initiated Draft Amendment 3 to the Fishery Management Plan. The Draft Amendment will consider changes to the management program including the development of ecological reference points that reflect Atlantic menhaden’s role as a forage species. To aid in the development of these reference points, the Commission has established a multi‐disciplinary working group to identify potential ecosystem goals and objectives for Board review and consideration.   • Arlington, VA – The Commission’s Atlantic Herring Section will meet via conference call on Monday, June 15, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. to consider withdrawing Draft Amendment 3 to the Atlantic Herring Fishery Management Plan from public consideration and review in order to further develop the proposed spawning protection measures. Draft Amendment 3, which is currently out for public comment, addresses three major issues: spawning protection measures, fixed gear set‐aside provisions, and requirements to empty fish holds.   • Arlington, VA – The states of Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts have scheduled their hearings to gather public comment on the Public Information Document (PID) for Draft Amendment 3 for Northern Shrimp for public comment. The details of those hearings are attached. The Draft Amendment was initiated to consider establishing a limited entry program for the northern shrimp fishery for use in the future if and when the stock recovers and the fishery is re‐opened.
