The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission is hiring for a contract Protected Species Acoustician to assist the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries (MADMF) Protected Species Program Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) project in detecting large whales acoustically in coastal Massachusetts. MADMF launched a PAM project in Feb 2025 consisting of 17 bottom-mounted archival stations and two real-time stations. The project is primarily focused on using acoustic detections to better understand the behavior and habitat use of North Atlantic right whales. As Recreational Angler Interviewer, the incumbent will conduct the field portion of the Access-Point Angler Intercept Survey (APAIS). This important research study, sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) conducts face-to-face interviews with marine recreational anglers. Recreational Angler Interviewers will travel to assigned sites to interview anglers about their fishing experiences, and collect a variety of information, and (when possible) weigh, measure, and identify fish by species name that the anglers have caught.
