The purpose of this report is to provide updated analyses on the current status of the Atlantic menhaden stock.

The ASMFC Striped Bass stock assessment sub-committee and Technical Committee met in August 2001 to evaluate the status of the striped bass resource. The assessment includes the Hudson, Delaware, Chesapeake and mixed coastal stocks.

This report serves as our primary documentation on the current status of Atlantic menhaden, and focus on the new benchmarks with their respective targets and thresholds identified in Amendment 1.

The Terms of Reference and Advisory Report provides summary information concerning the American lobster stock assessment and results of the external peer review to evaluate the accuracy of the data and assessment methods for this species. Specific details of the assessment are documented in a supplemental report entitled American Lobster Stock Assessment Report for Peer Review.

Results of the assessment show that despite recent increases in landings and fishing effort , fishing mortality rates declined and abundance increased during the last 10 years in the stock area as a whole.
