The striped bass statistical catch-at-age (SCA) model used since 2007 has been generalized to allow, among other things, specification of multiple fleets, different stock-recruitment relationships, and year- and age-specific natural mortality rates. The changes in model structure and additions are based on recommendations of the 2007 benchmark review committee (NEFSC 2008).

In 2013, the Northern Shrimp Section increased the number of landings days for the trawl fishery from two to four. This was due to low landings since the start of the season and the desire to provide the trawl fishery with greater access to the resource.

Backward and forward projection models represent two common approaches to assessing fish population trends.

The updated stock assessment was completed by adding catch and independent indices through 2012 to the previous 1982-2011 assessment. The result of the analysis shows that bluefish is not overfished or experiencing overfishing.
