This document presents a summary of the 2015 benchmark stock assessment for scup. The assessment was peer‐reviewed by an independent panel of scientific experts at the 60th Northeast Regional Stock Assessment Workshop/Stock Assessment Review Committee (SAW/SARC57) meeting in June 2015 with landings data through 2014.

The 60th Stock Assessment Workshop Working Group (SAW 60 WG) prepared the assessment report. The ASMFC Bluefish Technical Committee (TC) and the SAW 60 WG met February 18-20, 2015 in Providence, RI to evaluate data sources in preparation for the SAW 60 WG assessment meeting held April 27-29th, 2015 at the Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC) in Woods Hole, MA.

In June 2015, the Commission convened a Stock Assessment Review Panel comprised of scientists with expertise in stock assessment methods, length-based modeling, commercial fisheries sampling and fishery-independent surveys, and lobster life history and ecology.

The 2015 Tautog Benchmark Stock Assessment occurred through an Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) external peer review process and included an Integrated Peer Reviewer who provided guidance throughout the assessment. ASMFC organized and held a Data Workshop on March 25-29, 2013. Assessment Workshops were held on October 21-24, 2013 and March 10-12, 2014.

ASMFC organized and held a Data Workshop on April 15-19, 2013. Assessment Workshops were held on February 24-27, 2014 and September 15-16, 2014. ASMFC coordinated a joint Peer Review Workshop for the black drum and tautog assessments from November 11-14, 2014. Participants included members of the Black Drum Assessment Subcommittee and a Review Panel consisting of four reviewers appointed by ASMFC.

A moratorium was imposed on the northern shrimp fishery for the 2014 season. Northern shrimp abundance in the western Gulf of Maine had declined steadily since 2006.

The purpose of this report is to summarize the most recent information on the status of spiny dogfish (Squalus acanthias) in 2014. This report summarizes total estimated catch of spiny dogfish in 2013 and compares it to catch projections from previous years.
