Fisheries Management
The Interstate Fisheries Management Program (ISFMP) serves as the core of decision-making, where species management boards establish regulations to conserve fishery resources, supported by an active participation framework. The ISFMP Policy Board oversees this, monitoring stock performance and policy implementation with representation from all member states and several federal agencies.

Amendment 1 replaces an earlier ASMFC plan that was developed in 1984. Amendment 1 updates ASMFC management strategies for red drum in state waters and is coordinated with South and Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council planning for red drum in federal waters.

The primary goal of this plan is conservation and preservation of the East coast migratory stocks of striped bass. This plan is not intended to maximize yield from these stocks, and decisions on allocation of harvest among user groups are left to individual states.
