The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission’s (Commission) South Atlantic State/Federal Fisheries Management Board (Board) initiated Amendment 1 to the Interstate Fishery Management Plan (FMP) for Atlantic Migratory Group Cobia (Atlantic cobia) to reflect the transition from complementary to sole management of Atlantic cobia by the Commission and establish processes for efficiently managing this stock in the absence of a federal management plan.
Fisheries Management
The Interstate Fisheries Management Program (ISFMP) serves as the core of decision-making, where species management boards establish regulations to conserve fishery resources, supported by an active participation framework. The ISFMP Policy Board oversees this, monitoring stock performance and policy implementation with representation from all member states and several federal agencies.
