The Atlantic Menhaden Technical Committee met on March 16-17, 2006 in Providence Rhode Island. This meeting was a data workshop in preparation of the 2006 stock assessment. This stock assessment is an update from the 2003 peer reviewed assessment and will not be peer reviewed. It will use similar datasets and methodology as the 2003 assessment, updating the data from 2002 through 2005.

The Stock Assessment Subcommittee (SAS) held a workshop on January 3rd, 4th, and 5th to review and discuss models used to estimate horseshoe crab population status and trends. The Technical Committee (TC) met immediately after the SAS on January 5th and 6th to discuss the results of the SAS workshop and management options for draft Addendum IV.

The Technical Committee (TC) met in Norfolk, Virginia, on October 20th and 21st to review the draft Stock Assessment and respond to the requests of the Management Board.

The purpose of this meeting was to review updated information on the status of the spiny dogfish stock and to recommend management measures consistent with achieving the target fishing mortality rate in the upcoming 2006 fishing year.
