There were two major issues that were discussed during this call. 1) A possible split of the Atlantic croaker management unit at Cape Hatteras. 2) Monitoring requirements to be included in Amendment 1.

The meeting was attended by representatives from FL, NY, NJ, MD, NC, RI, CT, and DE. Three topics were on the agenda: sampling requirements, projections of stock status, and management tactics for reducing F based on current fishery catches.

The Technical Committee met in Raleigh, NC, on April 13 and 14, 2005.

Topics: Advise the Management Board on likely causes for low recruitment in Chesapeake Bay and a comparison of recruitment trends in other estuaries along the coast. Review the Stock Assessment model. Evaluate Ecological Reference points and recruitment indices for Chesapeake Bay and advise the Management Board.

The Spiny Dogfish Technical Committee met with the Mid-Atlantic and New England Fishery Management Councils’ Spiny Dogfish Monitoring Committee on September 24, 2004 in Manchester, New Hampshire to set the specifications for the 2005-2006 fishing year. The Monitoring and Technical Committees reviewed the most recent information on the status of the stock prior to recommending the annual quota and possession limits for the 2005-2006 fishing year.

The Atlantic Menhaden Technical Committee (TC) met on September 23, 2004 in Manchester, NH for the first non-assessment year review of the stock of Atlantic menhaden. In August, 2004 the Atlantic Menhaden Management Board approved Addendum 1 to Amendment 1 to the Atlantic Menhaden Fishery Management Plan (FMP).
