The Atlantic Herring Advisory Panel (AP) held a conference call to review New England Fishery Management Council (NEMFC) Draft Amendment 5 to the Fishery Management Plan for Atlantic Herring (Amendment 5). The Atlantic Herring Section (Section) asked the AP to provide feedback on Draft Amendment 5, which they will consider when developing written comments to the NEFMC on the document.

The Advisory Panel met via conference call on January 26, 2012 to make recommendation to the Board on the Draft Public Information Document for Amendment 2 the ISFMP for Atlantic Menhaden.

The Horseshoe Crab Advisory Panel (AP) met via conference call on November 29, 2011, to review the Draft Addendum VII to the Horseshoe Crab Fishery Management Plan. The AP agreed that the best option for management of the horseshoe crab bait fishery was to move forward with implementing the Adaptive Resource Management (ARM) Framework, Option 3, as it provides a sound, scientifically-based recommendation for harvest of horseshoe crabs while still considering the needs of the red knots.

The Shorebird Advisory Panel (AP) met via conference call on November 30, 2011, to review the Draft Addendum VII to the Horseshoe Crab Fishery Management Plan. The Advisory Panel convened via conference call on July 29th to review and provide feedback on two documents: 1) MAFMC Amendment 14 Management Options; and 2) Increasing Coordination between Councils and Commission. Kate Taylor recapped the AP’s previous recommendations on ocean bycatch (developed during Amendment 2 and Amendment 3) and then provided the AP with an overview of the alternative sets contained in the current draft of Mid-Atlantic Council’s Amendment 14 Discussion Document.

The Advisory Panel (AP) met on June 7, 2011 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The two main agenda items were (1) review public comment regarding the Public Information Document (PID) for Amendment 2 to the FMP for Northern Shrimp; and (2) make recommendations to the Section on management options appropriate for the northern shrimp fishery.
