  • Arlington, VA – The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, with the support of approximately $610,000 from NOAA Fisheries, has selected five aquaculture pilot projects along the Atlantic coast to receive funding. NOAA Fisheries provided the funds as part of its efforts to foster responsible aquaculture and seafood security in the U.S. After rigorous review, which included an evaluation of the technical aspects of the proposals as well as their compliance with environmental laws, the following projects were selected. Specifically, the Commission will approve a list of vendor(s)/device(s) in which state agencies and the Commission can order in bulk, or fishing industry members can purchase individually to meet the requirements of Addendum XXIX to the American Lobster Fishery Management Plan (FMP) and Addendum IV to the Jonah Crab FMP.   • Arlington, VA – The Commission’s Horseshoe Crab Management Board reviewed and approved Draft Addendum VIII for public comment. Draft Addendum VIII considers adopting the changes to the Adaptive Resource Management (ARM) Framework recommended in the 2021 ARM Framework Revision and allowing its use in setting annual bait harvest specifications for horseshoe crabs of Delaware Bay-origin. The Board initiated Draft Addendum VIII in January 2022, after it accepted the 2021 ARM Framework Revision and Peer Review Report for management use.   • Arlington, VA – The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (Commission) presented Steven G. Bowman, former Commissioner for the Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC), with its highest annual honor, the Captain David H. Hart Award, at the Commission’s 2022 Summer Meeting. The Commission instituted the Hart Award in 1991 to recognize individuals who have made outstanding efforts to improve Atlantic coast marine fisheries. The Hart Award is named for one of the Commission’s longest serving members who dedicated himself to the advancement and protection of marine fishery resources, Captain David H.   • The Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council (Council) and the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission’s Interstate Fisheries Management Program Policy Board (Policy Board) approved changes to the recreational fisheries management programs for summer flounder, scup, black sea bass, and bluefish. The changes include a new process for setting recreational measures (bag, size, and season limits) and modifications to the recreational accountability measures. The Council recommended these changes through a framework action, and the Policy Board adopted the new process through Addendum XXXIV to the Summer Flounder, Scup, and Black Sea Bass Fishery Management Plan (FMP) and Addendum II to the Bluefish FMP.…
