Description

Several stock assessment models are being considered for use in the 2018 benchmark stock assessment for northern shrimp, including an age-structured assessment model (ASAP) and a seasonal, size-structured assessment model with environmental variables developed by scientists at the University of Maine. All members of the SAS should have a strong working knowledge of these models, and be able to build and run them independently.

Accordingly, on June 13th, near Woods Hole, Massachusetts, Commission staff will provide training to SAS members on how to build and run the ASAP model. During July 17-19, scientists at the University of Maine will host the SAS at its Orono campus, and train them on building and running the seasonal, size-structured model with environmental variables. Both training sessions will require R programing and other software.

For more information, or if you wish to attend either training sessions, please contact Max Appelman, Fishery Management Plan Coordinator, at mappelman@asmfc.org or (703)-842-0740 for more information.
